Free Summer Concert Series featuring SOUTH OF K
August 9, 2013

SOUTH OF K

South of K is an acoustic band that many of you will recognize as a neighbor, family member, or even a long time friend! Each member resides or has close ties to Kure Beach, NC. Dennis Cooper, Aaron and Jamie King, and Joey Canady each have a long history of performing in varying music genres, but their love for their brand of bluegrass and their strong friendship has brought them together to form... South of K. What you will experience with this band is more than merely music; it's "friendship manifested in music!"

Band members:
Dennis Cooper - Dennis grew up in the mountains of NC where music was a big part of his life, and made his way to Kure Beach where he works and resides. Dennis is a talented musician who plays bass normally but also seasons the band's music with the Dobro. Dennis lends a hand in the band's arrangements and handles bookings as well.

Aaron King - Aaron is a native of Wilmington, NC and the older brother of Jamie. Music has also been a huge part of Aaron's life. Aaron and Jamie's parents were heavily involved in church music, leading in churches for many years, which helped create a masterful ear for music. Aaron has pastored several churches and is in demand as a Bible teacher. Aaron plays mainly guitar with the band and sings lead, tenor, and baritone.

Jamie King - Jamie was homegrown in Wilmington as well. The younger brother of Aaron, he also works and resides in Kure Beach. Jamie plays several instruments but focuses on the mandolin with South of K. Jamie also sings lead, tenor, and baritone and does most of the arranging.

Joey Canady - Joey is another native of Wilmington. He also has pastored several churches in the area, including Kure Beach First Baptist where he was for over ten years. Joey plays banjo and bass when called upon.
